the City Council
The City Council represents the citizens of the municipality. It lays down the principles for the administration of the city and decides on all self-administration matters of the city, unless it has delegated the decision to a committee or unless the Lord Mayor is responsible by law or the City Council has delegated certain matters to it for decision. The City Council monitors the implementation of its resolutions.
Distribution of seats in the city council
Based on the number of inhabitants, the Idar-Oberstein City Council has 40 members. After the local elections on 09.06.2024, the following seat distribution will result from 01.07.2024:
