"Children need families!" - The specialist advice service for foster families at Kinder-, Jugend- und Familienhilfe (KJF) Niederwörresbach of the kreuznacher diakonie foundation and the foster child services of the youth welfare offices of the Birkenfeld National Park district and the town of Idar-Oberstein agree on this. They are pulling together on the topic of "Placement of foster children" in our region and are inviting interested parties to a joint information event on Saturday, March 22. It will take place from 10 a.m. in the Johanneskirche in Idar-Oberstein, Am Rilchenberg 35.
Drying tears, hugging and settling arguments, but also learning vocabulary, going to the sports field and celebrating children's birthdays: mothers and fathers know how colorful everyday life is with children. Life is also colorful and lively in families who - whether they have children of their own or not - take in foster or guest children who are not growing up with their own parents.
The KJF Niederwörresbach and the two youth welfare offices work closely together in approaching new foster families and those who are experienced in providing care and support. This is because the number of children who are taken into care nationwide every year due to child endangerment or unaccompanied entry from abroad is constantly increasing. Growing up in a foster family can also be an alternative if parents are overwhelmed with raising their children due to mental illness, alcohol and addiction problems or other reasons and are (no longer) able to look after them properly.
All of these developments are also making themselves felt in the Idar-Oberstein area and the other areas of the Birkenfeld National Park district and a correspondingly large number of additional foster families are needed. In addition to permanent foster homes, the two youth welfare offices and the KJF Niederwörresbach are looking for socio-educational foster homes, standby foster homes and host families.
The information event on the topic of "Placement of foster children" is not only aimed at families and couples - including same-sex couples - of all ages, but single people or single parents are also invited to attend. After all, different children and young people require different family settings.
The event will include a screening of the current film documentary "Foster parents urgently needed!" as well as an open discussion with youth welfare offices, child, youth and family services and experienced foster parents. In a cozy atmosphere with snacks and drinks, many questions can be clarified and it is possible to get to know each other.
