Flood prevention and erosion control in agriculture

On Monday, March 10, 2025, at 7 p.m., an information event on flood prevention and erosion control in agriculture will take place in the Wappensaal of the association municipality administration in Herrstein. All farmers from the town of Idar-Oberstein and the municipality of Herrstein-Rhaunen as well as interested citizens and council members are cordially invited to attend. The event is supported by the Chamber of Agriculture, the Farmers' and Winegrowers' Association and the RLP Flood Prevention Information and Advisory Center.

Dr. Pecher AG is currently developing a local flood and heavy rainfall prevention concept (HSVK) for the city of Idar-Oberstein. This identifies the need for action to prevent flooding and heavy rainfall in the built-up areas and proposes measures for private and public action. However, water can also run off in concentrations from outlying areas and erosion on agricultural land can cause mud and debris to enter the villages. Soil erosion from arable land also reduces farmers' most important asset.

For this reason, an information event on erosion control and water retention in arable farming will be held for the town of Idar-Oberstein together with fourteen municipalities in the Herrstein-Rhaunen association of municipalities as part of the flood and heavy rainfall prevention concepts. Dr. Pecher AG will briefly present the HSVK and an expert in arable farming will provide information on possible measures for erosion control and water retention on agricultural land. This will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session.
