Since September 2024, a dedicated group of eleven young people aged 14 to 18 have been regularly rehearsing their own play every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Birkenfeld Youth Center (JUZ). Under the guidance of experienced drama teacher Loraine Iff, the young people enthusiastically dedicate themselves to the art of acting and staging.
Now the young people are bringing a gripping and humorous 1920s thriller to the stage with "The Pablo Case". The premiere will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 7 pm in the Jahnhalle Birkenfeld. This will be followed by two performances in Idar-Oberstein, namely on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in the Stadttheater and on Sunday, April 6, 2025, in the VfL Turnhalle Algenrodt, both at 5 pm. All theater enthusiasts can look forward to a rousing performance that is designed with passion, creativity and enthusiasm. The events are suitable for everyone aged 12 and over and admission is free.
The play is set in London in 1924. The police are investigating the death of Pablo from the Rodriguéz mafia gang. The troublesome widow causes a stir, while complicated relationships and intrigues lead to several suspects. Among others, the inspector's foster father, a curious reporter and even the inspector are targeted. In an exciting way and with video clips, the audience is led on various trails - a thriller full of twists and turns and wit.
The young actors and actresses not only developed their roles themselves, but also created the plot of the play together with theater teacher Loraine Iff. In addition to the weekly rehearsals, there were three rehearsal weekends that brought the group even closer together. Costume rehearsals were held and scenic details were worked out. The young people impressed with their diversity of ideas and talents, which made the rehearsals a lively and enjoyable experience. Together with set designer and media designer Dettmer Fischbeck, a suitable stage set was designed and built and the video clips were filmed.
This exciting project was developed in cooperation with Kamäleon e. V., the municipality, the town and the JUZ Birkenfeld as well as the Idar-Oberstein Youth Welfare Office. It is funded by "Wege ins Theater", an ASSITEJ project as part of the "Kultur macht stark. Bündnisse für Bildung" funding program of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
