From Monday, February 10 to Thursday, February 13, 2025, the Jugendtreff am Markt will be the central point of contact for all children and young people who want to learn more about democracy and the electoral process. As part of the U18 federal elections, JAM is hosting an exciting themed week where young people under the age of 18 can immerse themselves in the world of politics.
The U18 election is a long-standing, Germany-wide project of the German Federal Youth Council that gives young people the opportunity to cast their vote and express their opinion on the political future. The U18 election has been running since 1996. It began as a small campaign in a youth club in Berlin and is now an important platform for political education. Thousands of children and young people take part in elections to the Bundestag, state parliaments and European elections.
A variety of activities await participants at the Jugendtreff am Markt, where they can discover what democracy really means, how elections work and how they themselves can influence political decisions. Every day from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., all young people are invited to come along without registering and take part in various activities.
The highlight of the week is the U18 election on Friday, February 14, 2025, where all children and young people can cast their vote between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Afterwards, the election results will be announced live from 6 pm, before the event ends with music, snacks and exciting discussions in a relaxed atmosphere. In this way, the youth club not only celebrates the democratic principle, but also creates a space for exchange and discussion.
- All children and young people who are interested in getting actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the U18 election or would like to take a look behind the scenes can register at jugendtreff@idar-oberstein.de. Further information and current updates on the election week and the U18 election will be shared on Instagram under the account @jugend_io.
