OIE has supported the city of Idar-Oberstein and the Oberstein gymnastics club in converting the lighting in the gymnasiums of the Idar-Oberstein municipal theater to modern LED technology. The more than 40-year-old lights with neon tubes in the lower gymnasium and the associated showers and changing rooms were replaced in 2022. In 2024, some of the lights in the upper gym were also replaced, marking a further step towards energy efficiency. In total, 42 outdated lights were replaced with modern LED lamps in the two gyms and adjoining rooms.
The two gyms, which are used almost daily for various sports such as athletics, gymnastics and basketball, are located on the premises of the Idar-Oberstein municipal theater. The switch to new LED lighting enables greater energy efficiency and thus ensures lower power consumption. They also provide improved illumination of the halls - a benefit for trainers and exercisers.
In addition to the board of the Oberstein gymnastics club, the mayor of the town of Idar-Oberstein, the OIE board and the club's coaches and players were also present at the on-site inspection. "The conversion is a successful example of cooperation between the municipality, club and energy supplier. We are delighted that we have been able to make a contribution to energy efficiency in the region," concluded those involved.
