Wolfgang Schorlau & Village Blues

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 7 pm, a reading by Wolfgang Schorlau will take place in the Göttenbach auditorium with musical accompaniment by the band Village Blues. The event is organized by the Blue Note association in cooperation with the Obere Nahe Art Association and the Idar-Oberstein Youth Welfare Office. The event is supported by Kreissparkasse Birkenfeld, the Birkenfeld National Park District, the Bürkle Foundation, Vereinigte Volksbank Raiffeisenbank eG and Raiffeisenbank "Nahe" eG.

Wolfgang Schorlau became known throughout Germany for his exciting and exceptionally well-researched political thrillers centered around the main character of private investigator Georg Dengler. He doesn't just write thrilling crime novels - the Stuttgart-based author is concerned with the big picture. The economy and politics, the state and society. Schorlau was awarded the German Crime Fiction Prize in 2006, the Stuttgart Crime Fiction Prize in 2012 and 2014 and the Stuttgart Ebner Stolz Business Crime Fiction Prize in 2019.

This time, Dengler's 11th case, "Black Forest", also involves personal matters: he travels to the Black Forest to visit his ageing mother, who sees eerie shadows at night. At the same time, a planned wind farm causes conflict - until the spokeswoman of the opposition is murdered. The dead woman was Dengler's childhood sweetheart and his investigations uncover a web of corruption and greed in a battle between renewable and fossil fuels.

For more than 20 years, the local acoustic rock-blues band Village Blues has been interpreting classics from rock, blues, soul and funk with acoustic instruments. The sound is characterized by two or three acoustic guitars, blues harp, drums/cajon and polyphonic vocals.

The formation is inspired by musical greats such as the Beatles, Queen, the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd through to Neil Young, CCR and the Eagles. The audience can look forward to old classics and modern songs in a clear, carrying and always pleasant sound.

  • Tickets are available in advance from the bookshops Schulz-Ebrecht and Carl Schmidt in Idar-Oberstein, Tabac Faust in Birkenfeld and from Blue Note e. V. at kartenvorverkauf@bluenoteio.de.
