He was welcomed by the head, Dirk König, and his deputy Timo Jung.
Among other things, the organizational structures of the criminal investigation department, which have changed since last summer, were also discussed. What used to be seven individual police stations have now become four police stations by pooling personnel skills in order to achieve greater efficiency in the fight against crime.
The Idar-Oberstein Criminal Investigation Department has supra-regional responsibility for almost the entire district of Birkenfeld, the municipality of Morbach and parts of the municipalities of Thalfang and Bernkastel-Kues. This results in an area of more than 1000 square kilometers and over 100,000 inhabitants.
Another topic of discussion was the recruitment of specialist staff, which is becoming increasingly challenging for both the police and local authorities. Since last year, the Police University has been offering a three-year bachelor's degree course in 'Police Service', which enables direct entry into the criminal investigation department.
