All residents who are disabled within the meaning of the Severely Disabled Persons Act are entitled to vote. This can be proven by presenting a certificate of assessment for a degree of disability (GdB) of 20 to 40 percent or a severely disabled person's pass for a GdB of 50 percent or more. These persons can also be elected as members of the Advisory Board.
The aim of the Advisory Board is to promote, protect and guarantee the enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms by all people with disabilities and to promote respect for their inherent dignity. In order to achieve these goals, the Advisory Board aims to provide people with disabilities with a platform that enables them to actively participate in socio-political developments in Idar-Oberstein.
Election to the Advisory Board is by public ballot, in which all eligible voters may vote. Nominations are made from among those present. Those not present may also be nominated.
The advisory board should be as broad-based as possible. The administration is therefore not only calling for participation in the election meeting via the media, but has also written to relevant institutions and asked them to participate. Interested citizens are also invited to take part in the election meeting, as are those involved in working with the disabled and accompanying persons.
