The protagonist is Anni. She is 9 years old when Hitler comes to power. While she celebrates her birthday with her friends and parents, she realizes that she shares her birthday with Hitler, who has recently become Chancellor of the Reich.
From now on, the theaterspiel ensemble invites the audience to join them on Anni's behalf from birthday to birthday. The audience witnesses how the life and everyday life of the adolescent young woman changes dramatically in the years after 1933. Initially driven by euphoria and a spirit of optimism, a gray, dark veil soon covers the family's mood. With every birthday, it is not only the mood of the previously cheerful celebrations that changes. The guests also become fewer and fewer, and the initial enthusiasm changes as the effects of the regime become apparent. Imprisonment and deportation also leave deep scars in Anni's family environment.
The organizers of the Democratic Network Hunsrück-Hochwald e.V. and the Idar-Oberstein Youth Welfare Office are convinced that this play shows the effects of the Nazi era from the perspective of the little people and especially the adolescent children of those years like no other. Based on eyewitness accounts, 'ÜBERdasLEBEN oder meine Geburtstage mit dem Führer' tells of the unjust system of the Nazi state. There was resistance in many different forms against conformity, lack of freedom and injustice. A topic as topical then as it is today - a topic that particularly moves young people seeking orientation in the mainstream. With live music, drama and dance, the play delves into this moving time, tells of fates, friendship and enmity and makes it clear that it is necessary to stand up for democracy and humanity every day - even today.
The project was made possible by the Partnership for Democracy in the Birkenfeld National Park district, which supported the performance with funds from the federal program 'Demokratie Leben! The chairwoman of the association, Monja Roepke, thanks everyone involved for the great cooperation and is delighted "that the partnership has also enabled us to put on two performances for young people in the district town of Birkenfeld. Thanks to the donation from the Rotary Club Idar-Oberstein, we can offer the evening event with free admission. In addition to barrier-free access to the municipal theater, this also enables us to offer a financially accessible event to all people in the district, for whom a visit to the theater is often a question of money and not of interest."
- Admission is free, but due to the concept of the play, the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 150 people. The organizers therefore ask you to reserve tickets by emailing karten@demnethuho.de.
