European and local elections 2024

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, the European elections and the local elections in Rhineland-Palatinate will take place. Eligible voters can either cast their votes at one of the 23 polling stations set up in the Idar-Oberstein municipal area or vote by post.

Voting at the polling station

Eligible voters can only vote at the polling station in the constituency in whose electoral roll they are registered. The polling station is indicated on the polling card. To vote, voters must bring their official identity card - EU citizens a valid identity card or passport.

Voting by postal vote

There are several ways to apply for a "polling card" - the official term for postal voting.

  • A QR code is printed on the election notifications, which leads to the online application for a polling card. The corresponding link can also be found on the municipal website www.idar-oberstein.de.
  • There is an application form for a polling card on the back of the polling card. Simply fill it out, sign it and send it in a stamped envelope to the electoral office or post it in the city administration's letterbox.
  • Furthermore, a postal voting office has been set up at the Idar-Oberstein municipal administration in Georg-Maus-Straße 2, room II.004. Here, eligible voters can apply for a postal vote in person and, if necessary, cast their vote directly. The postal voting office is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 12 noon and Monday to Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm.
  • Postal voting documents can also be applied for informally by letter to the city administration, electoral office, Georg-Maus-Straße 1, 55743 Idar-Oberstein, by fax to 06781/64-9501 or by e-mail to briefwahl@idar-oberstein.de. Please state your first and last name, date of birth and full home address (street, house number, zip code, town). However, it is not possible to apply for postal voting documents by telephone.

Postal voting documents can be requested until Friday, June 7, 2024, at 6 pm. However, it should be noted that the letters still have to be sent by post. Therefore, the completed postal voting documents should always be returned early and, if possible, applied for and collected in person from June 5.

  • For further information on the European and local elections, please contact the city council's electoral office on 06781/64-1113, -1125, -1121 and -1111 or e-mail wahlamt@idar-oberstein.de.
