Double passes at the microphone

In the run-up to the European Football Championship, soccer fans can look forward to a very interesting event: on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 7 p.m., the whistle will sound for a very special kind of talk reading: cult commentator Fritz von Thurn und Taxis is coming to the Idar-Oberstein Municipal Theatre with anecdotes from almost 50 years of sporting history in his luggage. There he will meet his long-time assistant Florian Meigen, who has written a book about their time together, closely linked to his own biography. The event is organized by the Idar-Oberstein Youth Welfare Office in cooperation with the city association of sports clubs.

Visitors can look forward to 90 minutes of spectacular double passes at the microphone. The two commentators chat and read about big matches, interesting personalities and bizarre facts, about their love of soccer and life. They will be supported by Holger Wienpahl - long-time presenter of the SWR program "Flutlicht" and one of the faces of SWR-Landesschau for many years - and Lothar Lenz, chairman of the city's sports association. After the event, there will be author programs at the book tables of the Schulz-Ebrecht bookshop. Among other things, the book "Donnerwetter! 500 double passes at the microphone" by Florian Meigen is also available.

  • Admission costs 8 euros per person, concessions 5 euros. Advance booking offices are the bookshops Schulz-Ebrecht and Carl Schmidt, the Wochenspiegel and Tabac Faust in Birkenfeld. Ticket reservations can be made by emailing jugendamt@idar-oberstein.de. Seating is free, there are no seat reservations.
