As part of the "Film im Theater" season, the StattKino initiative in cooperation with the Idar-Oberstein Cultural Office will be showing the drama "Falling" on Friday, 12 April 2024, at 7.30 pm in the Stadttheater. The German Film and Media Rating awarded the film the rating "particularly valuable". According to the statement, the intensity, naturalism and unsparing gaze with which director Viggo Mortensen staged the film are reminiscent of European cinema, such as that of Ingmar Bergman. Landgasthof Böß will be serving "Childhood Memories" in the theater's banquet hall at 6.30 p.m. as a fitting meal offering. Registration is required for the meal.
After the death of his second wife, the embittered and extremely conservative widower Willis Peterson (Lance Henriksen) pays a visit to his gay son John (Viggo Mortensen) and his family in Los Angeles. The old farmer finds it difficult to come to terms with his son's life with his husband Eric (Terry Chen) and their adopted daughter Monica (Gabby Velis). His underlying racism, homophobic views and increasing dementia do the rest. John's sister Sarah (Laura Linney) also joins them and together they want to coordinate their father's care. But the unexpected get-together awakens old memories and the siblings have to come to terms with their father's - old and new - influence on their own lives.
After forays into the world of music and poetry, the multi-talented actor Viggo Mortensen, who became known worldwide as Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings series, makes his directorial debut here. He also contributes the screenplay and takes on one of the leading roles as gay family man John, who comes to terms with old conflicts with his demented father.
Admission to the movie costs 4 euros. Admission is from 7 pm, there is free seating. The movie including dinner costs 18 euros. Places for the meal are limited, and Landgasthof Böß will accept bookings up to eight days before the event date at the latest, subject to availability, by emailing info@landgasthaus-boess.de. Meal reservations cannot be returned or exchanged. Tickets and food can only be paid for on site at the box office.
