On Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 7.30 pm, Blue Note e. V. is organizing an acoustic guitar night in cooperation with the Idar-Oberstein Youth Welfare Office in the Göttenbach auditorium. Christian Lehr and the bands Hands On Strings and Stereo:Poets will be performing on stage. The event is supported by the Kreissparkasse Birkenfeld, the city of Idar-Oberstein, the Birkenfeld National Park District, the Bürkle Foundation Kirn, the Volksbank Hunsrück-Nahe eG and the Raiffeisenbank "Nahe eG" Fischbach.
Acoustic guitarist Christian Lehr is a fingerstyle live musician who shows what surprising, unexpected sounds and spheres he can create with just one instrument. He was influenced early on by guitar virtuosos such as John Butler and Andy McKee, but above all by Petteri Sariola and Mike Dawes, with whom he later performed on stage himself. The acoustic guitar built especially for him by Andreas Cuntz plays a major role. Christian Lehr makes purely instrumental use of all the sound-generating possibilities of the guitar and its body, as well as a looper and other effects.
On their new CD "Free Ride", Hands On Strings - Thomas Fellow and Stephan Bormann - celebrate their breathtaking blend of world music, concert music and jazz, revealing unbridled joy of playing and boundless imagination. For years, the two musicians have been shaping a new definition of guitar music, playing with the intensity of a band and the timbres of an orchestra. In doing so, they achieve the rare feat of completely forgetting stylistic boundaries as well as those of the instrument and conjuring up music for all the senses.
Wonderful guitar sounds, a touching voice and original songs from their own pen. The songwriting duo Stereo:Poets complement each other perfectly. The dialog between the two musical characters Sandra Beddegenoots and Stefan Varga results in exciting new creations. The result is a symphony of soulful ballads, rocking bangers and groovy songs that bring to mind a wide variety of influences: Joni Mitchell, Eurythmics, Cassandra Wilson, Joe Jackson, Rio Reiser and many others.
