Digital ambassadors wanted in the Birkenfeld district!

The digital world can improve quality of life, independence and participation in old age. However, many older people are often unaware of the opportunities that the internet, smartphones and the like offer in everyday life or do not have a local contact person. For this reason, almost 600 digital ambassadors have already been trained across the country since 2018 to help older people on their way into the digital world. More volunteers are also needed in the Birkenfeld district. The RLP Media Authority and the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Transformation and Digitization are responsible for the project.

The volunteers create meeting places such as PC, smartphone and tablet get-togethers as well as open consultation hours. They also offer their support at home or in care facilities for the elderly. All services are free of charge and are aimed in particular at people who are not yet online or would like to take their first digital steps.

Are you interested in digital media and would like to pass on your knowledge to older people? Then apply to become a digital ambassador! You should use digital media, but you don't have to be an expert. The courses teach the basics of using the Internet. You decide for yourself how much time you want to invest and what content you want to work on. Age does not matter.

The training includes four mandatory online dates for successful completion:

Module 1: Internet use in old age, what motives do older people have for going online?

Module 2: Formats and topics for your engagement

Module 3: Learning in old age and dealing with fear of contact

Module 4: Materials and how we support you!

In April 2024, the media authority will offer two training sessions:

Technology check: Friday, April 5 at 3 p.m. and the training sessions, Monday, April 8, Tuesday, April 9, Monday, April 15 and Tuesday, April 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. each day. Or the following dates:
