The preparation of the flood and heavy rainfall prevention concept (HSVK) for the city of Idar-Oberstein is entering the next phase. Several public information events will be held for the individual districts. All interested citizens are invited to take part in the information events and contribute information and their findings on flood and heavy rain protection.
Floods in streams and rivers as well as localized heavy rainfall events are natural phenomena that may occur more frequently as climate change progresses. This was dramatically confirmed by the events at Whitsun in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland as well as the current events in the south of Germany. It is therefore all the more important to take precautionary measures to minimize the impact on nature and people as far as possible. To this end, the city of Idar-Oberstein has commissioned Dr. Pecher AG, Rhein-Main branch in Mainz, to draw up a local HSVK. The project focuses on the streams and outlying areas bordering the local areas, which can cause flash floods during heavy rainfall, as well as the risk of flooding from the Nahe and Idarbach rivers.
All citizens of the respective districts are called upon and invited to participate in the project. In summer 2023, some public site inspections were carried out with representatives of the administration, the engineering firm and local residents. The resulting deficit analysis and the proposed measures will now be presented at the public information events and supplemented by the insights gained.
