Reading fun during the summer vacations

This year, 220 municipal and church libraries across the country are taking part in the summer of reading, and as many as 224 in the VORLESE-SOMMER. The Idar-Oberstein municipal library is of course also taking part again.

Vacation time is reading time

The Summer of Reading is aimed at children and young people aged six to 16. Anyone who registers for the event can borrow and read current books for children and young people exclusively and free of charge. Participants give their assessment of the books they have read as an interview or online in the form of an "online book tip" at www.lesesommer.de. For each book read, there is a stamp on the club card and an evaluation card. Each completed evaluation card is entered into the local and national prize draw. The more you read, the higher your chances of winning. The main prize at national level is a voucher for a two-day stay for four people at Europapark Rust with the Rulantica Water World. Anyone who reads at least three books during the campaign period will also receive a certificate. Many schools also make a positive note of successful participation on a supplement to the next school report.

The first step to reading - have someone read to you!

The VORLESE-SOMMER is aimed at daycare children of reading age (from 3 years) as well as potential readers. To take part in the VORLESE-SOMMER, you have to register at the library. For every book read to the child, a stamp is placed on the VORLESE-SOMMER club card. Three collected stamps and a drawn picture of the favorite book qualify the children to receive a VORLESE-SOMMER certificate. One club card per child goes into the lottery pot for the nationwide prize draw and there is also a prize draw at the local library. The main prize at state level is a children's bicycle, and there will also be a Lego set, Tonie box or Tonie figures, games and book vouchers.

Closing party in the city library

On Friday, September 13, 2024, the big closing party will take place in the city library. Everyone who has successfully participated in the summer of reading and VORLESE-SOMMER is invited. In addition to the certificates, the children can look forward to slush ice, face painting and great prizes from the raffle.

The reading summer is part of the state-wide reading promotion campaign "Reading fun from the library" and is supported annually by the state with over 110,000 euros. The reading promotion campaign is coordinated by the Rhineland-Palatinate State Library Center. The reading summer started in 2008 with 88 participating libraries and is now an integral part of the summer program for thousands of children and young people in Rhineland-Palatinate.
