Just over a week ago, the CITY CYCLING campaign of the Climate Alliance was launched in Idar-Oberstein. Until July 14, 2024, local politicians and citizens are called upon to cycle as many distances as possible in a climate-friendly way and collect kilometers for their team, their municipality and more cycling promotion.
Even after the campaign has started, interested parties can still register and cycle along. Participants are not only doing something for the environment, but can also win something. The Idar-Oberstein town council is offering tickets for sights and cultural events as well as gift vouchers from the town marketing association to the most diligent teams and cyclists. Anyone who lives, works, belongs to a club or attends a (high) school in the town of Idar-Oberstein can take part.
After the first week (as of July 2, 10:00 a.m.), 20 teams with a total of 162 active cyclists are at the start. They have covered 16,009 kilometers in 930 rides so far. On Friday, July 5, 2024, there will also be a joint bike tour, to which all interested parties are cordially invited. The meeting point is at 3 p.m. at the town hall in the Göttenbach-Aula parking lot. The tour will be shorter than in previous years in view of the upcoming quarter-final match of the European Football Championship. The destination is the new city park in Nahbollenbach. The return to Göttenbach-Aula is scheduled for 4.15 pm.
