Drying tears, hugging and settling arguments, but also learning vocabulary, going to the sports field and celebrating children's birthdays: mothers and fathers know how colorful everyday life with children can be. Life is also colorful and turbulent in families who - whether they have children of their own or not - take in foster or guest children who cannot grow up with their own parents. "Children need a family!" - The specialist advice service for foster families at Kinder-, Jugend- und Familienhilfe (KJF) Niederwörresbach of the kreuznacher diakonie foundation and the foster child services of the youth welfare offices of the town of Idar-Oberstein and the district of Birkenfeld agree on this.
The youth welfare offices and the child and youth welfare institution cooperate closely in approaching new foster families and those who are experienced in providing care and support. The number of children who are taken into care nationwide every year due to child endangerment or unaccompanied entry from abroad is constantly increasing. This is also noticeable in the National Park district and in Idar-Oberstein; a correspondingly large number of additional foster families are needed. If parents are overburdened with raising their children due to mental illness, alcohol and addiction problems or for other reasons and are no longer able to look after them properly, growing up in a foster family can be an alternative.
Info evening for foster parents on 24.02.2024
As all stakeholders in and around Idar-Oberstein are pulling in the same direction for the placement of foster children, they have planned a joint information event and are inviting interested parties to attend on Saturday, February 24 at 6 p.m. at the Idar-Oberstein Municipal Theater, Wilhelmstraße 22. In addition to permanent foster homes, the youth welfare offices and the KJF Niederwörresbach are looking for socio-educational foster homes, standby foster homes and host families. The information evening is not only aimed at families and couples - including same-sex couples - of all ages, but single people or single parents are also invited. Different family settings are needed for different children and young people.
The information evening will include a screening of the current film documentary "Foster parents urgently needed!" as well as an open exchange with youth welfare offices, child, youth and family support services and experienced foster parents. In a cozy atmosphere with snacks and drinks, many questions can be clarified and it is possible to get to know each other. Registration is not necessary.
