Petra Forster completed her preliminary and professional internship in municipal daycare centers, but initially worked at the Wurzelwerk Protestant daycare center for two years. On November 1, 1990, she was then employed by the city administration as an educator for the Hohl playroom. At that time, the playroom was still an open facility that was used by up to 90 children every day. In 2002, the playroom moved to Bahnhofstrasse 3 and became a play and learning room with a new concept. Since then, 20 schoolchildren have been looked after there in the afternoons and receive support with their homework. The facility is now housed in the former corridor school in Schulstraße.
"You and your team do a fantastic job in the play and learning room for the benefit of the children," emphasized Mayor Frühauf and thanked Petra Forster for her great commitment. Despite the often difficult conditions, she had put her heart and soul into running the facility, always having a smile on her face and an open ear for the children's needs.
As a farewell gift, Mayor Frühauf presented the soon-to-be retiree with a certificate of thanks as well as a few gifts and wished her all the best for the new phase of her life. Colleagues and staff representatives were also happy to join in the thanks and good wishes. Head of the Youth Welfare Office Michael Schweizer emphasized how important the play and learning room is as a childcare facility. Petra Forster is part of the 'inventory' of the Youth Welfare Office thanks to her many years of management. "In many committee meetings, I have come to appreciate Petra as a calming influence, and I can hardly imagine how things could go on without her."
Petra Forster also looked back with satisfaction on her work at the city administration. "It's a great job, but you also need a lot of idealism for it." She says it is particularly touching when she meets former childcare children who are now long grown up and they are happy and still grateful for the support they received back then.
