The "Advent Glow" took place in Idar for the first time on the third weekend in Advent. The pre-Christmas gourmet market was organized under the auspices of the city's business development department.
The Christmas atmosphere could be felt far beyond Schleiferplatz, as surrounding restaurateurs were also involved. Local clubs, schools and social initiatives took the opportunity to offer waffles, drinks and other treats in eleven wooden huts.
Only a very moderate fee was payable for the use of these huts. Nevertheless, the considerable sum of 950 euros was raised over the three days - money that will be used for a good cause: it will go to the local Caritas association. It will be used to support "Kids und Co", a group for children from families with addiction or psychological problems, as well as its counterpart for young people: "Teens & Co".
Lord Mayor Frank Frühauf presented the sum together with Sarah Wagner and Caroline Pehlke from Idar-Oberstein's business development department. The decision to use the money for this purpose was unanimous; one of the criteria was that the group belongs to the largest district of the gemstone city. Both groups meet in centrally located rooms in Idar. "And it's impossible to imagine life here without them," emphasized Frank Frühauf.
Elisabeth Hanstein was able to report on how well the prevention groups are established as a charitable offering: "Our fortnightly meetings are usually full," reported the educator, who accompanies both groups together with a youth counselor. "There are currently two places available at 'Kids & Co'." But that is indeed an exception, continued Hanstein.
Harald Pillny, head of the Caritas office in Idar-Oberstein, praised the Advent glow and its organizers: "You have created another highlight for Idar this year with a great, lively event," he said. "The fact that you also keep an eye on social issues deserves all the recognition it deserves!"
