In February 1990, the trained gas and water fitter was taken on in the pipe network department of the municipal utilities. In March 1995, Heiko Klintz passed his master craftsman's examination as a gas and water fitter and on June 1, 1997, he was appointed permanent deputy pipe network master. In this role, Klintz and his colleagues were responsible for the functionality of the drinking water network in the Idar-Oberstein urban area. Over the years, his area of responsibility shifted towards planning activities, he was responsible for transferring and maintaining the municipal utility's data in the city's GIS (Graphical Information System) and, among other things, prepared planning information, statements on building applications and calculations for house connections.
Mayor and municipal utilities manager Friedrich Marx emphasized the responsible work of the pipe network department. "The employees are responsible for ensuring that our 'food number 1' comes out of the tap in top quality in every household in our city." In view of the length and, in some cases, the age of the pipe network and the local topography, this is no easy task. Marx thanked Heiko Klintz for his many years of work and commitment in this area of activity. Together with colleagues and staff representatives, he wished the soon-to-be retiree all the best for his retirement and presented him with a few gifts. "I can look back on a wonderful time at Stadtwerke, even if it was difficult and stressful at times," emphasized Klintz.
