Kerb ramps are not permitted

During its road inspections, the municipal civil engineering department has recently noticed an increasing number of mobile or even permanently installed kerb ramps being installed by road users in front of their property access roads. However, the installation of such ramps in public traffic areas constitutes a special use requiring a permit and, as a rule, no permit has been issued for this. If they are also anchored to the road or kerb with screws or similar, this can constitute damage to property.

Apart from the legal circumstances, such kerb ramps also restrict the function of road drainage systems, make cleaning by sweepers more difficult and, in particular, pose a considerable safety risk when carrying out winter road maintenance. If such a structure is caught unfavorably by the snow plow, it can skid uncontrollably through the traffic area and cause considerable damage to property or personal injury.

For these reasons, the Public Works Department is asking the residents concerned to remove the kerb ramps in public traffic areas immediately.
