Stuart J Young's study of the painters Mark Rothko and Patrick Heron inspired his technique of glazing, the application of very fine layers of color with oil paints. It allows the building up of different intensities of color and, in this series, with a limited palette, mainly with pigments such as cadmium red, cadmium orange and cadmium yellow. These colors were chosen for their warmth and luminosity, which can have a healing effect on our life forces, especially in winter.
