Vacation program - third week

Under professional guidance, the participants quickly learned how to hit the ball with a tennis racket. After a short introduction, the tennis Olympics continued. The children gained self-confidence through play and trained their coordination and dexterity, and the skills they learned were put to the test in a match. At the end, all participants received a certificate.

The children immersed themselves in the fascinating world of Scheherazade with Nana Prestel in her painting and art school with the oriental tales from One Thousand and One Nights. They then drew the princesses' magnificent dresses and the prince's horses. The children also designed pyramids, camels, palm groves and the older ones engraved desert animals in precious stones. They also learned about the unique technique of encaustic painting. Finally, they practiced an enchanting dance together that reflected the life of Scheherazade.

The Idar-Oberstein meeting center also got creative. Greeting cards, envelopes and letterheads were designed and decorated in different colors in the "paper-making" workshop. Naturally, the children were allowed to take their works of art home with them.

The photo shows the children making pottery together with master potter Manfred Weigel.

Manfred and Heike Weigel's pottery in Dickenschied has been in existence since 1980 and mainly produces stoneware ceramics that are fired at a temperature of 1,265 degrees Celsius in an open fire. Every year, the participants in the pottery course look forward to working with plastic clay. After a fascinating introduction to the history of pottery and a practical introduction to clay techniques such as beading, slabbing and building up, the children were allowed to give free rein to their creativity. They made abstract bowls, cups and many self-determined works of art. These were then decorated with bright colors and proudly placed on the workbench. At the end, all the children were treated to a grilled sausage.
