The children were very excited because there were lots of cloths on the floor of the daycare center's reading room, which were hiding something. First, the children were greeted by Leslie the bookworm hand puppet. She was dressed as a train driver and had a large signal bell with her. At the green signal, the cloths were revealed, revealing the reading locomotive. But there was also something else attached to the fabric locomotive: 25 bags designed as wagons, each containing a picture book.
The train will now be stopping off at the Weierbach daycare center for two months. During this time, the children and teachers will work intensively with the books, which will be read aloud and talked about regularly. The creative implementation of some of the content is also planned. As each book comes in its own wagon bag, the children will also have the opportunity to take a book home with them for the weekend. At the end of November, Sandra Ley will pick up the reading train again and it will travel on to the next facility. The children at the Weierbach daycare center can then show her what they have painted or made to go with the books, sing the Lese-Lok song and tell her which books they liked best.
The Lese-Lok is a language and reading promotion campaign of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Library Center. It aims to convey the joy of reading, strengthen perception, promote language and stimulate creativity. As a local partner, the city library is highlighted by the campaign as another place to read and borrow media.
