A total of three squadrons and six groups took part in the tests in Kempfeld, with the Idar-Oberstein youth fire department providing two groups of twelve young people.
The performance medal is the highest award of the youth fire department and requires a five-fold performance within the community of the tactical structure, i.e. the firefighting group or relay team. For a group of nine participants, this includes a 1,500 meter relay race in a maximum of 4:10 minutes, a shot put of at least 55 meters, a speed exercise in which eight C-hoses must be laid in a maximum of 75 seconds, questions from the areas of firefighting and general knowledge as well as the construction of a complete firefighting attack. In addition, the overall impression, i.e. the appearance of the group, is also assessed.
In addition to the performance certificate, the young people also took the level 3 youth flame test. For this training certificate, they had to set up a foam attack and successfully complete a first aid exercise. Among other things, they had to provide a person found in the forest who was bleeding heavily with all the necessary materials and transport them out of the forest using a drag basket stretcher.
The young people from the Idar-Oberstein fire department had trained for four months for the exams under the guidance of city youth fire officer Bernhard Rothenberger. As a result, they were able to meet the requirements with flying colors and can be really proud of their achievements. The Mayor of Idar-Oberstein and Head of the Fire Department Friedrich Marx, the Deputy Chief Fire Officer Frank Knapp and the Watch Commander of Fire Station 1, Jörg Willrich, were also present at the award ceremony and congratulated the young people on their success.
