The photo shows a view of the meeting room. The rows of chairs for the council members are arranged in a semi-circle in ascending order. On the wall behind them is an installation showing the outline of the town of Idar-Oberstein with the coats of arms of the individual districts.

Film in the theater again with food on offer

At this special cinema event - organized by the StattKino initiative in cooperation with the Idar-Oberstein Cultural Office - selected films are shown in the municipal theater, each accompanied by a meal that matches the theme.

The 2023/2024 program begins on Friday, 20 October 2023, at 7.30 pm with the film "On the Couch in Tunis". French director Manele Labidi's feature film debut from 2019 is both a comedy, a contemporary witness to Tunisia's cultural situation and a homage to her parents' homeland. As a corresponding dish, Landgasthof Böß will be serving a "Tunisian feast" in the banquet hall of the Stadttheater at 6.30 pm. Prior registration is required for this event.

Selma (Golshifteh Farahani) is planning a daring venture: She wants to open a psychotherapy practice in her native Tunisia. While she sets to work with a great deal of self-confidence, she encounters suspicion, skepticism and bureaucratic obstacles in her old homeland. And not just because she wears her hair instead of a headscarf and has a picture of a Jew hanging in her psychotherapy practice. In order to cheat the Tunisian authorities, she quickly opens up her apartment and, in particular, her couch for therapeutic consultations. Despite the initial suspicion, customers are soon queuing up. From a beauty salon owner to a depressed man with erotic dreams and a stranger who is completely oriented towards Freud.

In 2010, a wave of revolutions began in Tunisia that went down in the history books as the Arab Spring. Less than ten years later, the political situation had changed, but not the tense relationship between citizens in the poorer neighborhoods. With her lively comedy, Manele Labidi manages to create a monument to Arab culture in upheaval in a way that is both serious and humorous.
