They play a crossover of folk, klezmer, jazz, Yiddish songs and chansons through to classical music. The event is organized by Schalom e. V. and the Idar-Oberstein Youth Welfare Office.
In their concerts, Victor Pribylov and Uli Holzhausen see themselves as the Chuzpe Orchestra in the tradition of klezmer musicians. Until the Holocaust, these musicians lived mainly throughout Eastern Europe and were "utility musicians" in the best sense of the word. In other words, musicians who played whatever their clients ordered or requested. They played in inns, at markets, at princely courts and wherever else they were invited. And they were an important part of the musical program at every Jewish wedding: "A Jewish wedding without klezmer is like a day without light."
The klezmer musicians therefore had a very extensive repertoire at their disposal and it is precisely in this spirit that the Chuzpe Orchestra plays and sings. With her lyrical soprano voice, Sonja Gottlieb is predestined to interpret the songs sensitively and accompany them with appropriate guitar sounds.
