In the coming weeks, a new telecommunications system (TC system) will be installed at the Idar-Oberstein municipal administration and public utility company. The previous system has reached its performance limits and it is no longer possible to procure spare parts for most of the components. In addition, the software supply has also been discontinued. This means that the entire system is no longer fail-safe and there has been an increase in faults recently.
In addition to the administration buildings, the 25 branch offices such as schools, daycare centers, city archives, city library, fire stations, tourist information, sewage treatment plants, indoor swimming pool and other facilities will also be successively connected to the new telecommunications system. With the replacement of the telecommunications system and all 500 or so telephones, four-digit extension numbers are also being introduced. However, the city administration switchboard can still be reached on 06781/64-0.
The majority of the new installation will take place from Friday, November 24, 2023, at 1 pm. The telecommunications system is expected to be out of operation until Saturday afternoon. The telephones in the administration buildings and the building depot will then be replaced. From this day, the new numbering plan with the four-digit extension numbers will also be active. It will be published in parallel to the changeover in the citizen information system on the municipal homepage at www.idar-oberstein.de/BIS. Accessibility of the previous three-digit extension numbers is guaranteed for a transitional period. Numbers that have already been converted will automatically be put through to the new four-digit number when the three-digit number is dialed.
