During this period, five IMacs and two VR glasses are available to the JAM. During the open meeting hours - Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. - these can be used to surf the net, try out new games and test media skills in a fun way. In addition, visitors can collect information on the topic of media and media use at various stations and test what they have learned in a quiz. In addition to the open offer, small projects and offers on the topic of media and digitalization will take place every Tuesday and Thursday during this time. Registration is required for open surfing and use of the VR-Brill.
On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., a delicious recipe will be cooked that was previously generated with the help of AI (artificial intelligence). AI has become an integral part of everyday life, with examples including email spam filters and speech recognition and processing programs such as Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa. Automated driving, supportive diagnostic systems in medicine and lightning-fast translation into many different languages are also only possible with the help of AI. In addition to the theoretical examination of the topic, it is particularly insightful to introduce children and young people to the topic using playful methods. This is because AI not only offers many new opportunities, but also has many pitfalls that need to be recognized for sustainable and responsible use. Registration is required for cooking.
The LAN party continues on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Participants will sit together at computers from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and try out various games together. This not only teaches them how to use a PC, but also promotes social skills and interaction. Anyone who wants to can bring their own laptop.
The second week continues with a two-day project. On November 28 and 30, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m., the focus will be on creating your own short videos. Everyone can use their own smart phone for this. The internet is all about self-presentation: Who am I? What do I like to do? Who do I want to be? Social networks, photo communities and chat apps are part of everyday life for children and young people and are used for communication and exchange. However, there are also downsides such as data protection problems, (cyber)bullying or sexualized self-presentation. This project aims to address these and other aspects of the conscientious use of social media. Registration is required for the project.
