CITY CYCLING - Idar-Oberstein takes part again

The city of Idar-Oberstein is once again taking part in CITY CYCLING this year. Mayor Frank Frühauf invites all citizens to take part in the Climate Alliance's campaign to cycle as many distances as possible in a climate-friendly way between June 26 and July 16, 2023 and collect kilometers for their team, their community and more cycling promotion.

"In March 2023, the city council approved the mobility concept for the city of Idar-Oberstein by a large majority. From now on, it will serve as the basis for further planning to promote the integration of everyday cycling," explains Mayor Frühauf. He hopes that the bicycle will increasingly become an everyday companion in Idar-Oberstein and also sees the CITY CYCLING campaign as an opportunity to discover his home town by bike in a different way.

What is the aim of CITY CYCLING?

Cycle as many kilometers as possible, both privately and professionally, to promote cycling, protect the climate and improve the quality of life in municipalities. The campaign aims to raise citizens' awareness of cycling in everyday life and bring the topics of bicycle use and bicycle traffic planning more strongly into local parliaments.

How can I take part?

Anyone who lives or works in Idar-Oberstein, is active in a local association or attends a school or university can take part. Participants can now register online, join an existing team or set up their own team. A person who founds a new team is automatically the team captain.

Every kilometer cycled during the three-week campaign period can be entered online in the km book or tracked directly via the CITY CYCLING app. Cyclists without internet access can ask the city administration to manually record the kilometers cycled.

Can I win something?

All citizens in Idar-Oberstein benefit from less traffic congestion, exhaust fumes and noise. The Climate Alliance also recognizes municipalities in five size categories and two categories based on their number of inhabitants. The Idar-Oberstein town council is also awarding the most hard-working teams and cyclists tickets for sights and cultural events as well as gift vouchers from the town marketing association.
