On Friday, July 14, 2023, Thomas D & The KBCS will be coming to Idar-Oberstein. In cooperation with the Blue Note association and the newly founded cultural initiative "JAM ON!", the Idar-Oberstein Youth Welfare Office is organizing a musical evening of jazz, hip hop and rock in the exhibition hall from 7 pm.
Regular meetings have already taken place since "JAM ON!" was founded in January 2023. The aim of the initiative, which is organized by the city youth welfare office, is to revive the cultural scene in Idar-Oberstein, taking regional players into account. And it started with a real bang: at the meeting in February, the youth welfare office announced that Thomas D from the Fantastischen Vier and The KBCS, a German instrumental jazz band from Hamburg, had been secured for an event in the exhibition hall. Naturally, this was met with great enthusiasm.
The formation brings pieces by Thomas D to the stage in the guise of the KBCS sound. The KBCS inspires with dry drums, earthy basslines, spacey keyboard sounds and filigree minimalist-soul guitars. The instrumental analogue vibe of KBCS harmonizes perfectly with Thomas D's timeless lyrics, which are more relevant today than ever. After Thomas D came across the band's album in 2019 and was impressed by the warm, meditative vintage sound of KBCS, he invited the Hamburg band to his private MARS studio in the Eifel region. The result was the album "The M.A.R.S. Sessions", which was released on July 30, 2021. And now Thomas D & The KBSC are on tour together.
But before the headliners take to the stage, Thomas Blug's Rockanarchie will warm up the audience. The full-time rock band consisting of Thomas "Stratking of Europe" Blug and Rudi "Gulli" Spiller stands for the improvisation of well-known classic rock songs. Each of their shows is a unique musical experience with which they revive the era of great rock music with their very own energy and passion.
With the support of the musicians, artists and music lovers of the cultural initiative "JAM ON!" and the Blue Note association, a breath of fresh air meets experience. Founded in 2012, Blue Note e.V. now has more than 100 members and organizes numerous concerts and events every year, including the Blues Night, which has been taking place since 1986. Thanks to its contacts, the catering service Saarkult e.V. could be won over for the event in Idar-Oberstein. The association, which is made up entirely of women, will tempt the bands and audience with Turkish delicacies on this evening. Anyone interested in helping to organize and run concerts and events can attend the next meeting of the cultural initiative on Wednesday, 19 April 2023, from 6.30 pm at the youth club on the market square.
Advance sales for the concert start on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Tickets cost 27 euros in advance, concessions 16 euros, and are available at www.ticket-regional.de and the associated advance booking offices.
