Stores may be open on Sundays and public holidays in tourist destinations with particularly heavy tourist traffic if they offer local goods for sale. This regulation of the Rhineland-Palatinate Shop Opening Act and the corresponding implementing ordinance of the Supervisory and Services Directorate also applies to the gemstone and jewelry stores in Idar-Oberstein. Accordingly, they may be open on the 40 Sundays and public holidays preceding November 1.
For 2023, this means that gemstone and jewelry stores may be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sunday, March 19, and on all subsequent Sundays and public holidays up to and including Sunday, October 29, 2023.
