Public site inspections have already taken place in the districts of Idar, Algenrodt, Tiefenstein and Oberstein in order to draw up the local flood and heavy rainfall prevention concept for Idar-Oberstein. Participating citizens provided valuable information on problem areas. The commissioned office and the city administration therefore cordially invite the population to participate in the upcoming inspections.
As a basis for drawing up the precautionary concept, the commissioned engineering firm has access to heavy rainfall runoff maps and flood hazard maps from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. During the inspections, the existing map material is checked, hazard points are recorded and information from citizens on past flooding caused by heavy rain and high water is collected. In addition to examining the risk of flooding from the main watercourses Nahe and Idarbach as well as from the lateral tributaries of smaller watercourses, the risk of heavy rainfall runoff from the slopes into the villages is examined in particular.
