The Idar-Oberstein municipal archive is expected to move into its new premises in the former C&A building, Nahe-Center 13-14, at the beginning of July. The move to the basement of the former department store, which is currently still being converted for its new use, will ensure that the valuable archive holdings are housed securely and in a contemporary manner.
Extensive preparatory and follow-up work is required to pack, unpack and transport the approximately 800 linear meters of historical documents, newspapers, photos, maps and plans. For this reason, the archive's user days - previously always Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. - will unfortunately have to be canceled between June 26 and August 14, 2023. In the new building, the reading room of the city archive will be open to users on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment. According to current planning, the staff will be able to welcome visitors to the new location for the first time on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, for a user day.
Even during the relocation, inquiries for legal purposes received by post, by e-mail to stadtarchiv@idar-oberstein.de or by telephone on 06781/64-473 will continue to be answered promptly.
