Two patrons for the stair run

The eighth edition of the Idar-Oberstein Felsenkirche stair run is just over two months away. The two competitions will take place on Sunday, September 17, 2023, with the start and finish at the Oberstein market square. The short run over 5.4 kilometers with 350 steps and 268 vertical meters starts at 11 am, the main run over 8.1 kilometers at 12 pm. There are 510 steps and 456 meters of altitude to overcome. Ilonka and Rainer Hagner from Marathonteam Hagner, which organizes the event for the city of Idar-Oberstein, recently met with Lord Mayor Frank Frühauf and presented him with further donation cheques for the children's aid fund of the city youth welfare office.

With their sporting commitment, the Hagner couple have been collecting money for the municipal relief fund for 19 years now. The stair run, which they organize together with a large team of helpers, also serves this purpose. Rainer and Ilonka Hagner were therefore delighted to be able to hand over donations of 400 euros each from Gottlieb & Wagner and Nagel Holzhandel and 250 euros from Türkis-Renouf to Mayor Frühauf. "The commitment of the Hagner couple is really something special, especially over such a long period of time," emphasized the mayor and thanked the two for their support of the Children's Relief Fund.

The Lord Mayor has of course once again taken on the patronage of the stair run. This year, he has prominent support in the form of Konstantin Wedel. Wedel won the stair run in the years 2016 to 2018 and was the first to take the challenge cup donated by Michael Weis of Emil Weis Opale back home to Franconia. He is now a professional runner, competes for LG Telis Finanz Regensburg and is also a successful member of the national team and at international competitions. "I am proud that this top athlete is taking on the patronage together with our Lord Mayor," emphasized Rainer Hagner. The marathon team is also proud of the support of the organizing and volunteer team as well as the numerous sponsors who support the athletes' commitment. "That's one of the reasons why we continue to put so much heart and soul into the event. It wouldn't be possible without our great team," says Hagner.

Currently, 45 participants have already registered for the two races. As always, the marathon team offers regular running meetings. Every Tuesday at 6.30 pm and Sunday at 10 am, runners can get to know the course and train for the competitions. The meeting point is always at the Oberstein market square.

  • Registrations for the Felsenkirche stair run are possible until Sunday, September 10, 2023, at https://my.raceresult.com/230488, the entry fee is 10 euros per run. Late registrations are not possible. Further information can be found at www.marathonteam-hagner.de.
