The city of Idar-Oberstein is once again taking part in the annual competition for cycling promotion, climate protection and quality of life organized by the Climate Alliance. The aim is to cycle as many distances as possible in a climate-friendly way during the three-week campaign period and collect kilometers for your team, your municipality and more cycling promotion.
So far (as of 07.07.2023), the 167 active cyclists have covered almost 30,000 kilometers. Last year, after three weeks, it was exactly 39,465 kilometers, which corresponds toa CO2 avoidance of about 5 tons. After all, CITY CYCLING is not just about setting an example for increased cycling promotion. The cyclists are also doing something good for the environment and can even win something in the process. In addition to the Climate Alliance prizes, the Idar-Oberstein town council is offering tickets to sights and cultural events as well as gift vouchers from the town marketing association for the most diligent cyclists.
On Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 10 a.m., there will also be a joint bike tour with Mayor Friedrich Marx. The meeting point is the parking lot in front of the Göttenbach auditorium at Georg-Maus-Straße 2. From there, the route leads along Hauptstraße to Tiefensteiner Staden. A detour to Vollmersbachstraße to the traffic circle at Heidensteil and back is also planned. Cyclists will be able to see the traffic situation in front of the school center and the shopping centers for themselves.
