Housing benefit office shortens opening hours

Due to the revision of the Housing Benefit Act on January 1, 2023, the number of people entitled to housing benefit across Germany has increased from around 600,000 to around 2 million households. In addition, the new "Housing Benefit Plus" will be significantly higher, with housing benefit doubling on average.

In view of the upcoming changes and the expected flood of applications, the Idar-Oberstein municipal administration has already taken care of hiring additional staff for the housing benefit office at an early stage. Nevertheless, an additional closing day is necessary to compensate for the greatly increased workload. The city administration asks for your understanding for this measure.

  • The housing benefit office in the Stadthaus, Georg-Maus-Straße 1, is open to the public on Mondays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon; it can be contacted by telephone on 06781/64-605, -628, -629, -634 and -627 and by e-mail at wohngeld@idar-oberstein.de.
