From Wednesday, February 1, 2023, a thinning measure will be carried out in the "Bein" area on behalf of the Birkenfeld forestry office, Idar-Oberstein forest district. This affects an approximately 300-metre-wide strip of forest along the tarred road from the Bein / Obere Kirchstraße junction in the direction of Sonnenhöfe. District manager Martin Döscher asks all users of this local recreation area to adhere to the necessary barriers: "This is not only for the users' own safety, but the employees of the Susenburger company carrying out the work do not want any accidents to occur due to careless passers-by." The work will take a few weeks, after which the area will be open to walkers and cyclists as usual.
During the thinning measure, a large proportion of the firewood (hardwood) ordered by citizens is to be processed with harvesters. Maintenance measures are also carried out in the pine stands. Over the past three years, many of the conifers have died due to the hot, dry weather in summer. These will be removed as they pose a danger to the many people who use the area for their leisure activities. However, some healthy pine trees will also be removed to give the remaining trees more space in the canopy.
The Birkenfeld Forestry Office and the town of Idar-Oberstein ask for your understanding for the inconvenience caused by the measure and thank you for observing the barriers.
