The photo shows a view of the meeting room. The rows of chairs for the council members are arranged in a semi-circle in ascending order. On the wall behind them is an installation showing the outline of the town of Idar-Oberstein with the coats of arms of the individual districts.

One Billion Rising" day of action

On this afternoon, there will be a small program around the action day: there will of course be dancing and a few musical acts, as well as the opportunity to enjoy hot drinks and waffles before, during and after the event.

"One Billion Rising" is a global campaign for an end to violence against women and girls, equality and a symbol of global women's solidarity. It was initiated in September 2013 by the New York artist and feminist Eve Ensler. As the largest mass action to end violence against women in human history, "One Billion Rising" unites women around the world.

Each year, the campaign has a special motto; in 2023/2024, the call focuses on rising for freedom and creating a new culture. The German website for "One Billion Rising" describes: "Rise for Freedom is defining and reclaiming what freedom means in the context of solidarity, democracy, security, equality, dignity and justice [...]. It stands for peace, compassion, kindness, connectedness, community and care [...]."

Anyone who would like to can come to the youth club at the market every Monday between 4 and 5 p.m. from January 8, 2024 to practice the dance. There will also be a room available for practice on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 6.30 to 8 p.m. at the Idar-Oberstein Women's Center, Mainzer Straße 60.
