District administrator election on September 24

On Sunday, September 24, 2023, the district council election will take place in the Birkenfeld district. A total of eight candidates are standing for election. If none of them receives an absolute majority on September 24, the two candidates with the most votes will go into a run-off election. This is scheduled for Sunday, October 15, 2023.

In the district council election, around 23,000 eligible voters in the town of Idar-Oberstein can cast their votes at polling stations from 8 am to 6 pm. Votes can also be cast by post. After 6 p.m., the votes will be counted in the 20 polling stations and the additional two postal voting boards in the Göttenbach auditorium; this is open to the public.

Applying for postal voting documents

In addition to voting at the polling station, citizens can also vote by post. Although the election notifications have not yet been sent out - this should be done by Friday, September 1, 2023 - postal voting documents can already be applied for at the Idar-Oberstein city administration. There are various options for applying for the so-called ballot paper:

  • The application can be submitted online. Either via the QR code printed on the election notification or via the municipal website www.idar-oberstein.de. A link on the homepage leads directly to the application for a polling card. However, the online application is only possible until Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 9 a.m.
  • The polling card can also be applied for informally by letter to the city administration, electoral office, Georg-Maus-Straße 1, 55743 Idar-Oberstein, by fax to 06781/64-444 or by e-mail to briefwahl@idar-oberstein.de. The first and last name, date of birth and full residential address (street, house number, zip code, town) must be stated.
  • However, it is not possible to apply for postal voting documents by telephone.
  • You can also apply for a polling card together with your voter's notification. There is a corresponding application form on the back. Simply fill it out, sign it and send it in a stamped envelope to the electoral office or drop it in the city administration's letterbox.
  • The polling card can also be applied for in person at the city administration. For this purpose, a postal voting office will be set up at Georg-Maus-Straße 2, Room II.004 (former Tourist Information Office) from Monday, September 4, 2023. The postal voting office is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 12 noon and Monday to Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Postal voting documents can be requested until Friday, September 22, 2022, at 6 p.m. (except online). However, it should be noted that the letters still have to be sent by post. The electoral office therefore advises that postal voting documents should be applied for and collected in person from September 21 if possible.

  • For further information, please contact the city council's electoral office on 06781/64-116, -122, -120 and -114, e-mail wahlamt@idar-oberstein.de.
