Shortly before the summer vacations, the staff and pupils of Realschule plus Idar-Oberstein in Rostocker Straße were able to celebrate the renovation of the garden shed. The hut, which is also used as a 'green classroom', was visibly getting on in years and has now been thoroughly renovated as part of the OIE employee program 'OIE macht's möglich' (OIE makes it possible).
As project sponsor, Leon Priebe played a major role in the successful implementation of the renovation. The former RS plus pupil is currently training as an electronics technician for industrial engineering at Westnetz, the OIE's distribution network operator. Together with pupils and teachers, the garden shed was refurbished from the floor to the roof over a total of eight working days. New floorboards were laid, the walls were sanded and painted and the roof construction and covering were renewed.
"Without the OIE campaign and the support of the many volunteers, we would not have been able to implement this project," emphasized Heike Kuhnen, acting deputy principal. She thanked everyone involved for their commitment and is delighted that the garden shed now shines in new splendor and can be used for many years to come.
In the "OIE makes it possible!" program, OIE employees and retirees get involved in helping others in their free time. Anyone who rolls up their sleeves and gets involved in a good cause in their local community receives funding for their project.
