Public transportation
Bus transport
On August 1, 2022, a new bus network was launched in the district of Birkenfeld and the city of Idar-Oberstein. This was associated with numerous improvements that put a stronger focus on public transport as a modern mobility service. The 39 bus routes connect all 13 districts of the city of Idar-Oberstein and the Birkenfeld National Park district. Line 800 - the Hochwald express bus - connects Idar-Oberstein and Trier once or twice an hour.
Local public transport is operated by Nahverkehrsbetriebe Birkenfeld GmbH and Scherer Verkehrs GmbH. Both transport companies are part of the Rhein-Nahe Naheverkehrsverbund, and you can find all timetables and price information on the homepage https://www.rnn.info/.
