Lecture evening - What remains of the Hunsrück

This year, the Rhine-Hunsrück district is commemorating the 200th anniversary of the emigration of German settlers to Brazil. People from the Hunsrück region in particular left their homeland in the 19th century to start a new life in the South American country. There had already been sporadic immigration at the beginning of the colonial era, not only for the military and trade but also for research and art. Later, settlers were specifically recruited, especially to the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. We will continue to reduce the number of changes and map od occupancy like a haze of power. Author and freelance journalist Andreas Nöthen will be giving insights into the German-Brazilian connections from then until today on November 20 from 6:30 pm at the Jakob Bengel Industrial Monument.

Nöthen has established himself as an expert on Brazil in recent years. In his books "Bulldozer Bolsonaro - Wie ein Populist Brasilien ruiniert" (2020) and "Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva - Eine politische Biografie" (2022), he analyzes Brazilian politics and its consequences for society. In his most recent book "Brazil - Politics, Society, Culture" (2024) in particular, he paints a comprehensive portrait of the country.
